Tiia Maria Saari is a Finnish opera singer with a lyrical soprano vocal range.


EDUCATION

Tiia Maria graduated as a musician from the Central Ostrobothnia Conservatory in 2009, with piano as her primary instrument. In 2016, she earned a master's degree in music from the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki, majoring in church music.


Since then, she has studied singing with Sirkka Parviainen, Marjut Hannula, and Anu Hälvä, among others. Under the latter's guidance, she completed her vocal studies at the Sibelius Academy in the spring of 2022. Currently, Saari's singing teacher is the recognized opera singer and music educator Irja Auroora.

​​REPERTOIRE
Tiia Maria’s lyrical soprano voice has been praised for its excellent coloratura, and her versatile expressiveness makes her a sought-after performer. She has performed opera and operetta roles but is particularly familiar to many listeners for her performances in church concerts in the capital region.

Her concert repertoire includes many soprano solos from major church music works, early music, premieres of works by several composers, and German and French art songs.

She often performs in improvisation concerts, combining different music styles with multi-instrumentalist Hale Heikkilä.

In the Beggar's Opera by John Gay, performed in September 2023, Tiia Maria sang Polly's role. The city of Helsinki has also supported her work and concerts with harpist Katri Tikka in the autumn of 2023.

PERSONAL STORY AND PEDAGOGY
Tiia Maria was born in 1989 in Lestijärvi, in the beautiful heartland of Finland, surrounded by lakeside and nature. As she says herself, this place has given her strong roots and solid values for life. 

Tiia Maria is a devoted educator who shares her expertise in vocal technique with aspiring singers. She teaches singing at her private music school and coaches sopranos in the Cantores Minores boys' choir.


Outside of her musical endeavours, Tiia Maria is a dedicated mother raising two beautiful children with her husband, composer and organist Olli Saari. Her commitment to her family and artistry is a testament to her passion and dedication to her craft.

She is also a devoted supporter of various charities, including the multiple causes supporting disadvantaged children and their wellbeing.
